Why is recovery so important?

Writer: Marcy VerburgMarcy Verburg

We always hear people saying “focus on recovery” or “stretch as much as you can” or telling you how “important” rest days are. Are they right or is this just an excuse so they don't have to work as hard?😕

It’s true! Recovery is a vital part of fitness. Without it you wouldn't be able to keep going…you would just fall apart! 😆

Here are some main reasons why recovery is crucial to a healthy exercise plan:

  1. It helps prevent injury💪

If you workout everyday, with no break, no stretching, and no active recovery, you will be prone to injury. This injury can cause you to miss out on a ton of workouts, which you definitely don't want!

  1. It helps your muscles grow😁

Your muscles won't get stronger if you just work them to the bone every day and give them no opportunity to build themselves back up. Proper recovery will help your muscles continue to grow and thrive.

  1. It will improve flexibility🧘‍♀️

Gaining strength is one thing, but having healthy muscles is another. In order to be as healthy as possible, you need to maintain some level of flexibility. Stretching in recovery will help you to maintain flexibility and keep your muscles loose.

Now that you know how important recovery can be to your life, make sure to include rest days, lots of sleep and some stretching in your routine. 😴
